[Ducati] Front brake hose routing (98 916)

I have just finished doing several service items
on my '98 916 (swingarm, and suspension
removal/relube, checked all electrical connections,
removed everything up front and lubed steering
head and new fluid in forks, etc). Anyway, I finally
got everything put back together and the only weird
thing is the front brake cable where it goes from the
right to the left side. I thought it used to lay in the
groove in the fender, and it looks like there is a hole
there for a bracket or something like that to hold the
cable. However I do not remember removing a braket
or anything being in that hole (and I have no left over
parts) and the cable wants to lay toward the rear of
the fender. I am worried the brake line might go over
the rear edge of the fender and somehow get in to
the tire. Here is a picture from the left side:

and a picture from up top looking down at the hole
in the fender:

Any ideas about what I have done wrong?

Shane
