[Ducati] Cranky Neutral Light

I found it!!! Plus, it is a single wire transmitter which I suspect would mean that in a pinch I could just ground it and limp on home, should I be stuck in the mythical East Podunk. A little experimentation is in order but I think a spare in hand would be a wise investment. Many thanks for the tip. Mike D. Bike

I don't know if this is a common problem, but I had a funky neutral light for a while too, which was diagnosed as a failed neutral switch. The switch takes about 60 seconds to replace and is located on the right side of the engine behind the vertical cylinder (near the crankcase breather). I think it cost me about $15 from a dealer and it solved all of my neutral light problems!! For reference, this problem occured on a '95 900 SS, but I believe they still used the same switch in '03.
Hope this helps.

Subject: [Ducati] Cranky Neutral Light
I own an 03 ST4s, currently the love of my life, and on a couple of occasions it has proved very difficult to get the neutral light to come on even though the bike is in neutral. This is of more than academic interest as without the light on the computer doesn't receive a permissive and the thing won't crank, so far resulting in a few curses but potentially much worse if stuck in heavy traffic, East Podunk, things of that nature. I would like to disable this "safety feature" so that if stalled in traffic I could just pull the clutch and stab the button rather than hunt for neutral or at least short around it if I find myself a long way from home with no neutral. Any suggestions? Mike D. Bike
