Vicki: I'm going to thank you in this "public" forum for your very personal "touch" in responding to my situation. I'm gonna respond to your response and add a coupla details from my saga; if y'all'll indulge me! The mechanic mentioned came to pick up my, now infamous Ducati, for some work to be done. The bill was to be taken care of by the Japanese dealership I bought it from. The work to be done was to fix a leaky front shock. (They didn't want their shop to do it!??) Well, the agreed upon mechanic said it wasn't an SP a 1/2 minute after we shook hands and he walked up to the bike.[ He was not trying to be "funny" (insulting or whatever). In fact he had a CR in the past because he coundn't afford, at the time, the $2,300 more he would've had to pay for an SP.] He called me a week later and told me he saw a little crack in the frame just behind the steering "head". (obviously I'm no bike mechanic). I said immediately, "Stop! don't do any thing else to the
bike." At that moment I knew I didn't want the bike. The dealer did,to their credit, offer to pay for repairing the frame too. I was so peeved that I just wanted t- so get my money back. Through their lawyer, I got the offer of frame repair, shock too, or giving me $2,750 for the bike!!! 1/2 what I paid for it in 2001. NO DICE. I've not ridden the bike since August '02. In New York state the statute of limitations on sales is six years for small claims court. This brings us roughly up to date and why I came into your life (lives): I was hoping to have a list of parts and prices plus labor approximation for the conversion, and present that as a resolution (along with promised repairs) to my situation BEFORE going to court. I MUST say, however, you have made me feel much better about my Ducati and (shhhhhh don,t tell them) just settling for the repairs! But, in all seriousness, I think I was wronged even if they did not do it intentionally; I should have
some recourse. Thanks for indulging me - if you've read this far!!! P.S.: Vicki, I HAVE regained my sense of pride of ownership AND I am no great shakes as a rider, not by any stretch of the imagination. I do have, by the way, a 1975 850 Norton Commando that, for all the world, looks like a well-worn ex-race bike (clip ons, 1/2 fairing, alloy rims, rear sets, big long tank, solo seat and Dunstall pipes). Oh and a stock, 'cept for clubman bars, 1970 BSA Lightning. And to keep things in proper perspectve: I never dreamed about having a Ducati; it just crossed my path and I hadn't seen one in years and I remembered it was in the bike magazine. It was absolutely a spontaneous act: asked if they'd take a grand less than they were asking and said it needed a rear tire, which they threw in, I came the next day with second half of the payment and rode off on my first Duacti. All IN A FLASH. Veeeerrryyy impulsive. That's my story... so far.

Dont buy a Treo 650 or 700. I've had both. In my experiance, they are best
used as hockey-pucks, skipping-stones for lakes, or to look exceptionally cool.
Between the frequent reboots, and code updates and crashing applications, its
a miracle I actually get anything done. If it wasnt for the sheer fact that my
employer makes me carry one around, I'd have taken it to the pistol range a
long time ago.
Go with a blackberry.

Hello all,
I had the exact opposite experience. I custom ordered a seat from Sargent and when they returned it to me it was worse than factory. I can barley go over 40 miles before pain sets in. I have just put up with it over the last two years. Over this winter, I will send it back to them and have them redo the seat.
PS. I did order to atomic foam and they only put it on the riders seat NOT the passengers seat. DOH!!!!!!
Explain this to my wife.....enough said.

You have been vewy, vewy lucky! Over the years, we purchased about 5 Corbin
seats. The first time I asked for some "custom" work to be done (just
narrowing the very front a bit for my ST4s), the results were absolutely
disastrous. I sent it back, and it came back from their second attempt even
worse than the first attempt. After several phone calls, I finally gave up.
I can't ride that seat more than 100 miles without severe pain.
We ordered a custom-designed Sargent, works very well thank you.
I will NEVER purchase another Corbin seat, stock OR custom. Their attitude
sucks!

Sorry for the lack of Ducati content, but I figure this list is pretty up on
smart phones.........
I am very happy with the coverage and customer service my US Cellular plan
has, but they are lacking when it comes to higher tech phones. They just
got the Blackberry 7130.
I was looking for feedback regarding Blackberry pros and cons and those who
use the Sony Treo or new Motorola Q. I would need to change over to Verizon
for the latter two, which is not an issue for me. I am leaning towards the
new Q if I change to Verizon.
Any and all feedback, on or off list, is appreciated! Thanks!

While visiting Rome a while back we arrived at the Piazza di Spagna (Spanish Steps) and found an unexpected surprise. There was a large number of Alfa Romeos on display - from very old to current models. Lovely creatures they were - both the cars and the young women wearing elegant red dresses who watched over them.

I forgot about that, the VM tipped me off. For the benefit of those that
have never heard the story, during one of Ducati's financial lows it was
reorganized by the Italian govt. as part of a group of companies called VM. (late
70's/early 80's I believe) At that time what Ducati was building in much
bigger numbers than motorcycles was (believe it or not) diesel engines. And one of
the engines they designed and built went in a number of cars including the
Alfa Romeo Alfetta. If you think this history is wacky, consider this. In
1940, in a roundabout way, Ducati was responsible for a partnership between the
Pope and Mussolini. It was targeted for redevelopment because of it's size
(over 7000 employees before the war), and taken over by IRI - which was the
Italian govt but funding was provided by the Vatican because the country was
broke but the Vatican stayed neutral during the war so it still had coffers of
cash. So, the company basically belonged to the Vatican and Mussolini. And
THAT'S who was on the lookout for cheap transportation for the people and who
made the contract with Siata for clip on engines to put Ducati in the
motorcycle business and eventually build the Cucciolo.

Went to the premier showing in DC last evening as well as an after hours
party at a local club. Enjoyed drinks and chatting with many local racers and
shop owners, Patrick Bodden of "Motorcyclist" showed up and seemed to enjoy the
gig, although I'm not so sure the youthful exuberance and crowding at the
club was overly pleasurable to he or the wife.
Anyway, without revealing too much of the film, I found it as entertaining
or more as "FASTER" and more educational. A rather unique fairly in depth
look into these riders, as well as Hoppers, race they ran at last years US
MotoGP, in turn by turn, pass by pass, mistake by mistake discussion. For me, as I
have never been to Laguna, the analysis of the track was nice also.
Heartily recommended as a "Gotta Buy"
Cheers,
W

Hi Carl,
Back when your bike was new, a knowledgable Ducatista might have looked at
it and considered it the lesser alternative. These days all you'll hear is
what a great bike the 900SS was and how lucky/smart/etc you are to have one.
I sincerely hope you haven't lost the joy and pride of ownership because
someone said the bike wasn't "the good one" because they are all good and the
differences between models to most people's riding ability's are small. (I am
in no way suggesting you are aren't a great rider, just that most sporting
motorcycles sold for quite a while now are capable of more performance than most
riders can eeck out of them)
You might want to step back, look long and hard at your motorcycle and
decide what about it you love and what about it you would like to change. And take
it from there. Add carbon, change the pipes, whatever bonds you with the
machine. To lose the feel of the dream you had every time you opened Cycle World
for all those years (as well as your first happy months of ownership) is a
much bigger shame than the fact that you bought a different model than you
wanted.
