Okay, this is just a hypothetical "cancel me" message, but I want to see how
the judges think I'd rate.

Criminy, you people really blow me away. How can so many people write so
many damned e-mails in so short a time? I got up from my desk to get a bag
of peanut M&M's from the vending machine, which are outrageously priced and
are never properly stocked and half the time the bag ends up stuck on the
little curly-cue wire thingy and you end up having to buy TWO bags. I was
gone for *maybe* six minutes and I come back to find 377 e-mails in my
inbox.
Somewhere buried in that astounding array of salient topics such as which
motor oil to use, what tires to use at Buttpopper Park in East Gumbush
Montana, and whether Pierre Terblanche should be nailed to a cross at the
next WDW, was an urgent e-mail from my boss telling me to pick up a client
at the airport at 12:15. It's now almost 5:00 Pacific Time and the
unemployment office about to close, but I still felt compelled to write this
e-mail.
In 2003, President Bush signed the CAN-SPAM act (
http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2003/12/20031216-4.html) to curtail
the spread of unsolicited e-mails. In spite of repeated attempts to cancel
my own membership using the "unsubscribe" web form, I continue to receive
huge volumes of e-mail from the list. Clearly the web form is a practical
joke, but as they say, "fool me once, shame on you -- fool me twice, shame
on me." I'm sad to say I tried some dozen or so times and even now I'm
tempted to try just one more time, sort of the same hopeful mentality that
goes into buying lotto tickets every week, I'd imagine.
But now, enough is enough. You've had your fun. Unsubscribe me (or
"unsubscibe" me, if you prefer) or you'll hear from my lawyer.
