[Ducati] getting blown off by a BMW

back in the 70s when production racing was all the
rage down under i rode in 5 of the castrol 6 hour
races at amaroo park. i got passed/lapped by a bmw
which was going so fast into the tightest corner on
the track that i was convinced he was going to tear
the cylinder off. no he just lent it over until the
rocker cover was skimming the track then eased it up a
bit & pissed of into the distance. his name - helmet
dahne - official metzeler tire tester & winner of the
production race at the isle of man. i did not feel so
bad after finding that out.

i also got lapped by mike hailwood the year he rode an
750SS ducati so no shame in that as well. i did
actually pass him as he was coming back onto the track
 from a fuel stop but that does not really count.
mike was a real down to earth guy - like paul smart
for those that have met him at the many ducati
functions in the last few years - just happy to sit in
the pits after the races & sink a few drinks with the
other riders & spectators.
