Just one little data point on that, which is not to refute the whole concept
because it may very well be a crapshoot, but my Beemer was a demo bike. It
had 800+ miles on the clock when I bought it, and had already had the
break-in service done.

I just ticked over 58,000 miles and nary an engine problem. I've had some
other ancillary issues, like needing a new clutch and starter and stuff, but
the engine still purrs like a kitten and runs as strong as it ever did. I
have high hopes that it'll make 100K without needing major engine work.
