Cheap way to hold the drum, put the bike in 6th and hold the rear brake lever. Moonbeam

Thank-you. I just needed the confidence to apply more force. The rod came
out of the bearing! I will replace parts as necessary. However the drum
and housing both have wear marks from the plate tangs. I can't see being
able to hold the drum without the special tool to remove the nut so I think
I should take it to my shop for complete inspection and replacement.
Do the cush rubbers typically need to be replaced at this point?
I put 40,000+ miles on it so a complete rebuild is probably the right Thing.
