>As some of you may know, during my trip to the dealership for the 6,000
>miles check, I got an engine failure light that came on. Further inspection
>confirmed that the RH Cooling Fan was shorted out. However it was not the
>cooling fan itself, nor the wiring but the CPU. Here comes my
>nightmare!!!!. I had purchased the Ducati Performance Terminiogni Exhaust
>kit which came with the Performance CPU and new Air Filters. I did the
>installation myself 14 months ago unknowingly that this will void the 2
>year warranty of the purchased parts. When I went to PU the bike, I was
>given an option to purchase one at cost ($800+/-) if I wanted fixed. Known
>for my short temper with these issues and in desperate need to cool off, I

>Ducati Customer Service directly regarding an exchange under full warranty.

>Dealing at the factory Ducati regional Technical representative level and
>having owned several Ducati's since the 70's and having the first 1098S
>(deposit receipt in hand) would make you think you can get some leverage.
>Wrong!!! The Service Manager at Ducati of Charlotte Bob Mihalko did all he
>could at the technical representative level and it was denied 3 times. Van
>Singley and Jim McKenna from Ducati did not want to deal with the issue at
>all. As a matter of fact, they did close the door on the issue pretty
>fast!!!!! I called Ducati of North America and presented my case. I
>personally spoke with a guy name Lorenz who was extremely helpful and
>promised a fast answer. A week after not hearing from Ducati I called again
>and I was put to the voice mail of Michael Norman who runs all Tech Reps in
>NA. Another week and nothing. However in between all of this, and with the
>help of the Bob Mihalko we both made our case in front of Ducati. We
>constantly demanded answers since neither one were ever told of this
>obscure
>Ducati Policy that if you install your own electrical components the
>warranty is voided. The Ducati of Charlotte team even stepped up to the
>plate by offering paying 1/3 of the cost split equally with Ducati and me
>as
>a proposal and I was ready to take that.. Yesterday I decided to call back
>and spoke with Lorenz again..He promised a call back which he did saying
>that it will be handled properly. Bob called me this morning with the good
>news and I am happy to report that (in accordance to the Ducati
>notification) "After further consideration and in the effort to maintain
>good relations with a loyal customer, that Ducati will honor the full
>warranty of the DP CPU installed in your bike" they also said something
>like they will train all parts personnel at the dealership level to
>communicate in the future Ducati warranty policy.
