Okay, I guess I wasn't entirely clear.  The point I was ineptly trying to
make is that if -- in whatever market -- Ducati sets MSRP for the 2007 1098
at about what the 749 was going for in 2006, then I don't see them setting
MSRP for the 2008 848 at or above that same price.  I think I concur with
Alex, that the base 848 will likely be $13,995 here in the States -- or the
price of a base 2006 749 in your market.  Which, I guess, is what the
article said in the first place.  :P

That would mean that if they do an "S" model, it'll cost about the same as a
base 1098, and an "R" would probably be up around where the 1098S is.

Personally I think it would make more sense to make the base 848 more like
$11,995, the 848S around $13,995 -- where the base 749 is now -- and the "R"
(if there is one), up in the $18K range.  I mean, if they're reducing the
price point at the top of the superbike line, why keep the baby superbikes
at 2006 prices?  But that's just me.  :)
