Yes, this is a well known problem.
I just had the guides replaced under warranty on my 2005 Multi- Ducati is
covering it after the warranty is up too.

There is a list of engine numbers of bikes that can have the problem. I
didn't have any symptoms, but had it done while it was still under warranty.

 Check with a good dealer or Ducati NA.
