[Ducati] batteries

Al, thanks for the encouragement and the links, and to Rich, too.

[clip] One question I have is what 12V alternator/magneto did you use to
replace
the 6V system? Have thought about doing the same on my 450 scrambler but
have not found a way to do it.
The previous owner did it to do an electronic ignition conversion, which
crapped out after I bought the bike from him, and then the company went out
of business, so I went back to points, no problems. Here is a link to an
article I found in his papers, which is how he did it, I think: OK the link
ain't working: try ducatimeccanica.com, and scroll way to the bottom of the
home page to articles, etc, and there you will find it when the site's back
up. It has the words 12-volt conversion, and for the narrowcase, you use the
original windings, but re-wire in a simple way as I recall.

I tried charging the battery off the bike (it's already old and has sat
through a long and painful restoration), and got a blinking warning light on
the charger. Then I hooked up the charger, with the battery on the bike,
turned the charger on, and started the bike: CLICK!! Whoopee. The lights
came on nice and bright, hi and lo, the brake pedal worked no problem, and
I'm looking forward to shopping for a battery tomorrow, though its supposed
to snow . . .

cheers
R
