Thanks Bob.
I'll get out my witching stick and start poking around. The starter  
relay... I'll try to re-create the condition, but this time with the  
clutch lever in to see if the starter tries to kick in. What scale on  
the voltmeter is safe for this exercise? I fried one before,  
definitely NOT being a Double E.

all this talk of occult missions has my ST headed out the garage on  
its own night runs...
