Adam,
Sounds like you may need to have your dealer/shop richen up the mix a  
bit. The US models (at least) are set really lean from the factory.  
My '03 999 did the same thing when new, and would periodically cough  
its lights out at traffic lights when I applied some throttle to get  
going ahead of the cagers... made for some interesting moments. it  
was promptly fixed at the 600 mile service by Munroe Motors in SF.  
End of problem and I now have just under 12k trouble-free miles on my  
lovely 'stretta.
